The beginnings
Roland Soubras began his career by setting up a photoengraving company in Wandre. RS photogravure specialised in preparing and processing files for printing.SNEL, QUITE A STORY
The start of the adventure
Société des Nouvelles Éditions Liégeoises, now known as Snel, was looking for a buyer. The challenge was accepted, and the first steps in printing were taken! At this time, the company focused on modernisation, introducing new machines, adopting polychromy and modernising the pre-press. Finishing
At the end of the 90s, Snel introduced its first CtP (Computer-to-Plate) in its workshop, marking a milestone in printing technology. At the same time, a dedicated in-house finishing department was set up to guarantee complete production.SNEL, QUITE A STORY
Renewal of the offset fleet
Snel built on its expertise and mastery of offset printing: three new presses were added to the existing fleet, boosting production capacity.SNEL, QUITE A STORY
Binding
The finishing department added another string to its bow with the arrival of linen thread sewing.SNEL, QUITE A STORY
Brand new premises
During this year, Snel moved to the Hauts-Sarts industrial estate. This transition was accompanied by the construction of a new building, providing the company with a surface area of 10,700 m2. The move doubled the plant's production capacity and tripled its finishing and binding capacity. In addition, new presses were acquired to enable double-sided 8-colour printing and large format printing.SNEL, QUITE A STORY
Digital printing
In 2011, Snel expanded its range of services by adding digital printing to its offering. This step further strengthened the company's versatility and its ability to meet the needs of its customers in the digital age.SNEL, QUITE A STORY
Launch of a platform
In collaboration with Segec, Snel launched the first online ordering platform: https://www.monjdc.be/.SNEL, QUITE A STORY
A bright future
SNEL's presses get a facelift! The company invested in two new state-of-the-art Heidelberg presses: Speedmaster XL 5 colours + lacquer and Speedmaster XL 8 colours LED-UV. Both these presses have been awarded the CO2 Neutral label.SNEL, QUITE A STORY
Rotary digital inkjet press
The company invested in a high-quality rotary digital inkjet press, one of the first in Europe.SNEL, QUITE A STORY
BeEMKA
The company strengthened its position as a specialist in products for schools (class newspapers, diaries, course notes, report cards, etc.) through the Emka brand, renamed BeEMKA.SNEL, QUITE A STORY
Ongoing investment
New investments were made in the finishing facilities, with the renewal of traditional stitched binding and the acquisition of a Varéo digital stitching line.SNEL, QUITE A STORY
Reaffirmed eco-responsibility
A further step towards more responsible printing was taken with the introduction of chemistry-free plates.SNEL, QUITE A STORY
Today
Today the company has 5 offset and digital presses (2 Heidelberg, 2 Canon, 1 Kodak) as well as its own offset and digital finishing equipment. Snel offers complete, integrated, made-to-measure solutions: print-on-demand, graphic design, routing, storage, etc. The company also provides "finishing only" services for its fellow printers. Roland's daughter Caroline in breathing new life into the business in a modern, dynamic way.

Sustainable and responsible printing
Snel is committed to environmentally-friendly printing. Our vision of a responsible
printing industry involves concrete, practical actions. Snel is certified FSC® (FSC C012447), PEFC (PEFC/07-31-89) and IMPRIM’VERT. Our offset presses have a “CO2 neutral” label, which means that the greenhouse gas emissions linked to their construction, transport and installation have been entirely offset, voluntarily, by Snel. This approach extends to our shipments with Bpost, which are certified “CO2 logic”.
All the paper used at Snel is of European origin. Whenever possible, we work with vegetable-based inks, chemical-free plates, water-based varnish and solvent-free glues. What’s more, we recycle all our raw materials and recover the heat produced by our machines to heat our workshops.
